Event Overview

Where to start with Algebra? How to introduce it so it makes sense – 1 day workshop
This workshop is being repeated in three different locations, from 9am-3pm.
- Tuesday 16th March in Kerikeri at Biz Space (3 Cobham Road)
- Wednesday 17th March in Whangarei at The Orchard (35 Walton Street)
- Thursday 25th March in Kaitaia at Te Ahu (Corner of SH1 and Matthews Avenue)
This PLD is open to everyone and will be covering parts of the Number/Algebra strand up to CL5. It would best suit teachers of years 5 to 10 who would like to upskill themselves around the introduction and teaching of algebra.
You will engage in activities that help transition from an understanding of Number to more Algebraic thinking. We will be exploring how to communicate ideas using correct mathematical language and how to develop an understanding of key algebraic notation through contextual problems.
We will focus on enhancing the teaching and learning of Algebra across the levels of the curriculum, and how to introduce Algebra from the very beginning in a meaningful way. We will be referring to the Learning Progression Framework throughout.
Morning tea and lunch provided
